Self-Lit

March 26 - May 10, 2011

How art is illuminated is integral to the viewer's experience and understanding. Under bright gallery lights, only the surface of a work of art will be seen. But as artists, we consider work in all manners of light, often illuminating work from within, using light as medium itself, or controlling precisely how a viewer will perceive the work. For this exhibition, 18 Rabbit Gallery has put full control into this group of artists' hands as to how the world will see their work. From laser beams to projections to glowing installations and a firefly-inspired performance, we took over 18 Rabbit Gallery and the Projects, FAT Village's 10,000 sq ft exhibition hall.

Artists include:
Amy E. Schubert-Corrao, Onajide Shabaka, Bradley Lezo, Carol-Anne McFarlane, Claire Kern, Cristina Sierra and Lauren Jacobson, Donna Haynes, Vanessa Diaz, Gregory Dirr and Yanuary Iracema Navarro, John McNulty aka Jack Trash, John Shirk, Jonathan Rockford, Joni Younkins-Herzog, Leah Brown and Peter Symons, Matthew Falvey, Richard Herzog, Russell Rand, taraShea Aananda, Victoria Skinner and Walter Hnatysh.
